The causes behind low confidence or self esteem are many and varied. It may be that your parents were too critical of you as a child (and even today as an adult), or a teacher embarrassed you in front of the class or you made a mistake at work. It is your perception of what happens to you that makes the difference. You may have had your work criticised by your boss and felt your confidence or self esteem has been dented. Another person might have had the same criticism but has managed to keep their confidence and esteem intact. It really does depend on how you view life. A lack of confidence is often an indication that you might be suffering from some underlying stress, anxiety or depression. When we lack confidence, we often feel as though we just can’t cope, that we are not capable, or have the necessary skills to do certain tasks. We find our selves often thinking negatively about what has happened or negatively forecasting what might happen in the future. “I can’t speak up in the meeting because I will probably say the wrong thing and look useless” Because self confidence is such a natural and basic resource, lack of it is often one of the reasons for lots of other problems and difficulties. Without it much of your life is put on hold. Hypnotherapy can help by first of all lowering your levels of anxiety then help you to view matters in a different way, recognising that the glass can be half full as well as half empty. Therapy will help you to understand how your subconscious has got it wrong. The old unwanted patterns of behaviour that cause you to lose belief in yourself can be changed and your confidence boosted. When you achieve more confidence, just about every area of your life will change in some way. A confident person makes opportunities and as result has more options in life. |
